Founding Principal Engineer

Job Summary

We are building an automated, smartphone‑based microscope platform for real‑time cell analysis, starting with semen analysis and expanding to other routine samples. As the Founding Principal Engineer, you will own the entire platform – backend services, data handling, infrastructure, security, and identity – ensuring it meets clinical standards and remains reliable as we grow. Your responsibilities will include designing system architecture, implementing robust backend solutions, managing database operations, securing data and access controls, and coordinating with the founding team to set engineering standards. You will also lead troubleshooting, performance tuning, and the deployment of AI‑enabled features. The role demands deep experience in building and scaling production platforms, knowledge of secure authentication and authorization, proficiency with infrastructure as code, containers, Linux, networking, and cloud environments, and an ability to work through complex, production‑critical incidents. A background in regulated environments such as medical devices or finance is a plus.
