Software Engineer – Postgres Platform

Job Summary

PlanetScale is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join its Postgres engineering team. The role focuses on designing and building the control plane that provisions, scales, and heals Postgres clusters, ensuring minimal downtime for customers. Key responsibilities include developing high‑availability, disaster‑recovery, and data‑protection solutions, tuning Postgres for large‑scale workloads, and automating database operations such as backup, restore, and migration workflows. The engineer will also work directly with clients to translate real‑world needs into platform improvements. Candidates should have a strong background in building and operating large‑scale Postgres deployments, deep knowledge of operating system concepts, and experience with distributed, fault‑tolerant systems. Proficiency in Go and familiarity with Kubernetes, cloud platforms, and infrastructure‑as‑code are essential, with additional value for experience in DBaaS or managed database environments.
