Solutions Engineer (Database Migration & Pre/Post Sales Support)

Job Summary

PlanetScale is looking for a Solutions Engineer to join its growing sales team and act as the technical bridge between customers and the PlanetScale platform. The role involves partnering with sales and customer engineering throughout the pre‑sales and post‑sales journey, guiding prospects through technical discovery, and designing proof‑of‑value engagements that align with business outcomes. Key responsibilities include creating migration strategies for PostgreSQL and Vitess clusters, performing workload analysis, and recommending architecture, sizing and optimization solutions. The ideal candidate will build automation scripts (Python, Go, JavaScript) and develop educational content such as guides, blogs and workshops to accelerate customer onboarding. The position requires deep expertise in database systems—replication, sharding, high‑availability, and performance tuning—alongside strong customer‑facing skills. Experience with major cloud providers, container orchestration, and infrastructure‑as‑code tools is highly valued. The role is fully remote with minimal travel (under 20 %).
