Ashok Dada, now 80, wakes before dawn to sweep 2 km of roads that cut through his village. The task, which he started as a child, has become a daily ritual that he maintains without hesitation.
He began his work at the age of ten, brushing away dust and debris with a simple broom. Over the decades, the routine has not only kept the streets tidy but also inspired neighbours to join in.
Dada’s commitment highlights the role of ordinary citizens in sustaining rural infrastructure. Though his family has urged him to rest, he continues to walk the same stretch each morning, earning respect across the community.
Local authorities have acknowledged his efforts, and several initiatives aim to support his work with better tools and recognition.
