BC Dal Flags Data Discrepancies in Caste Census

The National Backward Classes Dal (BC Dal) has warned that differences in regional names, sub‑caste designations, local usage, pronunciation and spelling can create duplicate entries for a single community in the upcoming caste census. President Dundra Kumaraswamy cautioned that such inconsistencies may distort representation of backward classes across India, raising concerns about the accuracy and fairness of the census process.

The National BC Dal has raised a flag over potential inaccuracies in the forthcoming caste census. President Dundra Kumaraswamy pointed out that regional variations in nomenclature, sub‑caste identities, local usage, pronunciation and spelling could lead to multiple entries for what socially is the same community.

He emphasized that such duplications would skew data, undermining the objective of accurately reflecting the demographics of backward classes. The organization calls for a standardized approach to naming conventions to ensure a fair and reliable census.

While the issue is national, the potential impact on West Bengal’s diverse caste landscape is significant, as accurate data is essential for policy planning and resource allocation.
