The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared a heavy rain alert for the entire state of West Bengal, signalling that rainfall levels are expected to be severe. The alert is aimed at helping residents prepare for possible flooding, landslides, and other weather‑related hazards.

In a separate notice, IMD urged fishermen to stay away from the sea. The warning cites rough sea conditions, strong currents, and high waves that could pose a serious risk to those on boats.

Local authorities in Kolkata and other districts are on standby, with emergency services ready to respond to any incidents caused by the heavy rains. Residents are advised to stay indoors, secure loose objects, and monitor official updates for further instructions.
