The West Bengal government has announced the deployment of ten special trains to cater to the surge in passenger traffic expected during the upcoming Durga Puja immersion. These additional services will run between major hubs and the immersion sites, ensuring safer and more efficient travel for devotees.
Alongside the special trains, the Kolkata Suburban Railway will make temporary adjustments to EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) schedules. Certain EMU lines will see reduced frequency or altered timetables to accommodate the increased flow of passengers heading to the immersion locations.
Transport officials say the measures will help prevent overcrowding on trains and at stations, offering a smoother experience for the millions of people who travel to participate in the puja rituals.
The state’s transport department will monitor crowd movements closely and may introduce further changes if necessary. The initiative is part of a broader plan to improve infrastructure and public safety during the festival season.
