Calcutta HC stays NKDA NOC over New Town Puja event

The Calcutta High Court has issued a stay on the No Objection Certificate (NOC) granted by the New Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) for a puja event in New Town. The court’s order, issued after a petition, halts the ceremony until the legal dispute is resolved. The stay means organizers cannot proceed with the festival, which was scheduled to take place on a specific date. The decision reflects ongoing tensions over land use and regulatory compliance in the area.

The Calcutta High Court has stayed the No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by the New Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) for a puja event scheduled in New Town. The stay was granted after a petition challenging the legality of the NOC was filed in the court.

Under the court’s order, the puja cannot be conducted until the issues raised in the petition are addressed and a final decision is reached. The decision effectively pauses the event, which was to take place on a planned date.

The stay comes amid concerns about land use regulations and environmental approvals in the New Town area. Organizers of the festival have expressed disappointment, stating that the decision disrupts plans and could affect the community’s celebrations.

Lawyers representing the petitioner highlighted that the NOC may have been issued without fulfilling certain statutory requirements. The High Court is expected to review the case further before issuing a final ruling.
