Centre Targets 200,000 West Bengal Artisans Under Vishwakarma Scheme

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has announced that 200,000 artisans across West Bengal will be covered under the Vishwakarma scheme. The initiative aims to provide skill training, financial aid and market linkages to craft workers, boosting their income and preserving traditional crafts. The move is part of a national effort to strengthen the artisan sector and create employment opportunities in rural and semi‑urban areas.

The central government has earmarked 200,000 artisans in West Bengal for support under the Vishwakarma scheme. The programme, launched by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, focuses on enhancing craft skills, providing financial assistance and facilitating market access for local artisans.

Under the scheme, selected workers will receive training to upgrade their craft techniques and improve product quality. They will also be offered financial incentives and support to start or expand their own businesses.

The initiative is expected to strengthen the traditional craft industry in the state and generate new employment opportunities, particularly in rural communities where many families rely on hand‑made products for their livelihoods.
