The Chief Justice of the West Bengal High Court urged authorities to arrest all individuals charged in the case within ten days, threatening a gherao of the District Magistrate’s office if the directive is ignored.
The warning, issued during a hearing, reflects the judiciary’s frustration over delays in the arrest process. A gherao—a form of protest where demonstrators surround a building—has been used historically to pressure officials.
Law‑enforcement officials have acknowledged the request and are reportedly reviewing the status of the accused. The move highlights the growing tension between the judiciary and executive arms over the timely execution of justice.
If the arrest order is not fulfilled, the Chief Justice indicated that the DM office could be subjected to a gherao, which would disrupt administrative functions and potentially lead to further public unrest.
