R G Kar, the ex‑chairman of a Bengal municipality, was seized by police after a chase that spanned multiple states.
The pursuit began in a neighboring state and ended with Kar’s arrest in the city where he was last seen. Police officials confirmed that the operation was carried out following investigations into alleged misconduct during his time in office.
Kar was taken into custody and is currently held in a police station pending further legal proceedings. The authorities have stated that the case will be brought before the court in the coming days.
The arrest underscores the heightened scrutiny of municipal officials in West Bengal and reflects the state's efforts to curb corruption and irregularities in public office.
