GCC Orders 260 Tonnes of Bituminous Cold Mix to Repair Roads Ahead of Monsoon

The Greater Calcutta Corporation (GCC) has announced the purchase of 260 tonnes of bituminous cold mix to address widespread potholes that have been reported across the city. The material will be deployed on bus routes and interior roads in 15 different zones to curb damage before the Northeast monsoon season. Deputies have highlighted the urgency, noting delays in existing road relaying projects. M. Magesh Kumaar, Deputy Mayor, has urged the GCC to consider awarding annual, zone‑specific maintenance contracts to streamline future repairs.

The Greater Calcutta Corporation (GCC) has decided to procure 260 tonnes of bituminous cold mix in preparation for the upcoming Northeast monsoon. The acquisition follows mounting complaints from commuters about deteriorating road conditions and stalled relaying work. The cold mix will be used to patch potholes on key bus routes and interior roads across 15 administrative zones.

Deputy Mayor M. Magesh Kumaar has suggested that the GCC change its approach by awarding annual, zone‑wise maintenance contracts. This recommendation aims to reduce delays and improve accountability in future road repair projects.

The new procurement is expected to provide immediate relief to affected commuters and prevent further damage to Kolkata’s road network as the monsoon approaches.
