Howrah Residents Urge Authorities to Address Rising Road Levels

In Howrah, a growing number of residents have voiced concerns over steadily rising road levels that hamper daily commutes and increase flood risks. Local community groups have organized petitions and meetings with municipal officials, demanding immediate remedial measures such as road leveling, improved drainage, and regular maintenance. Authorities have acknowledged the issue and pledged to investigate the causes and plan a comprehensive solution.

Residents of Howrah’s industrial belt have reported that several roads in the area are experiencing gradual elevation changes, which have led to frequent waterlogging during monsoon rains and disrupted traffic flow.

Community leaders have compiled a petition highlighting specific stretches affected, including the stretch between Baghbazar and Joka. They have requested the Howrah Municipal Corporation to conduct a technical survey, reinforce drainage infrastructure, and implement timely road leveling where necessary.

During a press conference held yesterday, a spokesperson from the municipal engineering department said the city is aware of the problem and will prioritize the investigation. The department also mentioned that a preliminary assessment will be completed within the next month, followed by a detailed action plan.

The residents emphasized that timely intervention is critical to prevent potential accidents and to maintain the region’s commercial vitality, especially for transport and logistics hubs that rely on smooth road networks.
