Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that India’s retail inflation has risen to 4.8%, marking the highest rate recorded during the 12‑year tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that under the previous UPA coalition governments, retail inflation had consistently exceeded double‑digit levels and never fell into the single‑digit range. The statement was made on Tuesday, highlighting a comparative view of inflation trends across administrations.

Union Minister for Education, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi stated that the current retail inflation rate stands at 4.8 percent.

Joshi pointed out that this figure represents the highest inflation level observed in the 12 years of Narendra Modi’s leadership.

He contrasted this with the UPA era, during which retail inflation regularly surpassed ten percent and never dipped into single‑digit territory.
