In a move to revive the city’s food scene, the Municipal Corporation of Kolkata has granted reopening permission to ten restaurants, many of which had been closed due to the pandemic. Authorities also indicated that a further twelve establishments are likely to receive green signals shortly, pending compliance with updated health and safety guidelines. The decision is expected to boost local dining, tourism, and the hospitality sector after months of restrictions.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation announced that ten restaurants have been cleared to reopen following a review of their hygiene and safety measures. The establishments, spread across various neighborhoods, will operate under the new guidelines that include mask mandates for staff and limited seating capacity.

In addition, the corporation confirmed that twelve more restaurants are poised to receive approval soon. These venues are currently completing the necessary inspections and documentation required for compliance.

The move signals a gradual easing of COVID‑19 restrictions in the city, aiming to support the hospitality industry and encourage visitors to resume dining out. Restaurant owners expressed relief, noting the economic impact of prolonged closures.

The city’s health department will continue monitoring infection rates, and restaurants will be required to adhere to updated protocols to maintain their operating status.
