Kolkata urges South Kolkata puja organisers to keep roads and walkways clear

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has issued a directive to puja committees in South Kolkata, urging them to keep roads, footpaths and alleys unobstructed. The notice stresses that stalls, decorative lighting and other festive structures should not block pedestrian or vehicular traffic, ensuring smooth movement and emergency access during the celebrations.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has released a notice for puja organisers in the southern part of the city, requesting that they avoid blocking roads and footpaths with stalls, lights or other decorations. The directive cites the need to maintain smooth traffic flow and ensure quick access for emergency services during the festive period.

Organisers are advised to place any temporary structures away from major traffic arteries and to clear pedestrian paths at all times. The notice also highlights that any obstruction could lead to accidents or delays in emergency response.

KMC’s message is part of a broader effort to improve safety and reduce congestion as the city prepares for the upcoming puja season.
