A major fire erupted at a key CESC facility in Panihati, situated in the northern periphery of the Kolkata Metropolitan Area, triggering local panic as thick black smoke billowed from the site.
Preliminary reports indicate that a sudden transformer blast likely initiated the blaze, which quickly engulfed portions of the installation. Emergency services and multiple fire tenders were deployed to the scene to combat the flames and contain the hazard.
Firefighters worked to isolate the damaged electrical units to restrict the blaze from spreading to neighboring areas. Power department officials are evaluating the extent of the damage to determine if local electricity services will face interruptions.
An investigation into the exact trigger of the transformer explosion is expected as authorities focus on restoring normal operations at the facility.
