Posters depicting Rahul Gandhi dozing in Parliament have appeared in various parts of Kolkata, prompting the West Bengal Congress to condemn the attack on a national leader.

The images show Gandhi lying with his face on his hand and eyes closed, accompanied by the caption “Is this how a national leader should be?” Another picture shows him sitting with his face on his palm, eyes closed. No group has claimed responsibility and there are no identifying markers on the posters.

The posters surfaced two days after the Congress and the Leader of Opposition held a rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan against the Chief Election Commissioner. The opposition has been pressuring the Union government and CEC Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of vote theft and has organized multiple protest marches in Delhi.

“There is a Rahul phobia; wherever he goes, they (BJP) seem to be traumatised. He is not just a politician but the Leader of the Opposition. Putting up posters in such bad taste against someone who holds a national-level office is unacceptable. Mr Gandhi can be criticised for his politics, but personal attacks have no place in politics. We do not expect much from the BJP, which repeatedly indulges in such things in bad taste,” said Congress spokesperson and senior leader Suman Roy Chaudhuri to The Hindu on Tuesday (November 3, 2026). He added that the party will not put up counter posters in response.
