Prime Minister Amit Shah flew to Siliguri on Saturday to hold talks with leaders of the Gorkha community and officials from the Gorkha National Liberation Front. The meeting was held in the presence of senior party leaders and aimed at addressing long‑standing demands of the Gorkha people.
During the discussions, Shah highlighted the government’s commitment to finding a sustainable resolution to the Gorkha issue. He assured that the central administration would take decisive steps to ease tensions and promote development in the region.
Following the meetings, the government announced the formation of a panel dedicated to crafting a permanent political solution for the Gorkha community. The panel will comprise representatives from the state, central government, community leaders, and other stakeholders to work towards a lasting agreement.
The move is seen as a significant step toward stabilising the area and addressing the demands of the Gorkha population, which has long sought greater autonomy and recognition.
