The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has announced that it has blocked the Prime Minister’s Vishwakarma scheme in West Bengal. The decision was made public by Suvendu Adhikari, a senior TMC leader and prominent political figure in the state.
In a statement released by the party, Adhikari said that the Vishwakarma scheme would not be implemented in West Bengal due to perceived shortcomings in its design and concerns over how it would affect local artisans. The party has not yet released a detailed justification for the block.
The Vishwakarma scheme is a national programme launched by the central government to provide skill development and employment support for artisans and craftsmen across India. While the scheme has been implemented in several states, West Bengal’s TMC has opted out, signalling a divergence between state and central policy priorities.
