Police forces in West Bengal have taken a senior Maoist commander into custody. The arrested individual, Asim Mandal, has been a key figure in the Communist Party of India (Maoist) for years. His capture follows a multi‑state search operation.
The government had placed a reward of 2.2 crore rupees on Mandal’s head, reflecting the seriousness of his alleged activities. Authorities confirmed that he was seized near a location in the state and is now in police custody. His detention is expected to weaken the insurgent group's operational capabilities.
The arrest occurs amid intensified security measures across the state, targeting left‑wing insurgents. Officials say the operation was a coordinated effort between state police and central agencies. No injuries were reported during the apprehension.
