WB Bypolls: EC Bars Both Rival Factions From Using TMC Symbol and Name

The Election Commission of India has restricted both competing groups claiming to represent the Trinamool Congress from using the official party emblem and name for the upcoming West Bengal assembly by-elections. The decision comes amid an internal rift where both factions sought exclusive rights to the party's official identity. Until the electoral body makes a final decision on the ownership dispute, neither group will be permitted to contest under the traditional TMC banner or symbol in these bypolls.

Ahead of the crucial assembly bypolls in West Bengal, the Election Commission of India has issued an interim order barring both opposing camps of the Trinamool Congress from utilizing the official party name and electoral symbol.

The regulatory action follows competing claims submitted by rival factions, each asserting legitimate control over the party organization and requesting allocation of the traditional symbol. To maintain a fair electoral environment, the poll panel decided to freeze the symbol and name temporarily.

Under the present ruling, neither faction will be recognized under the unified party identity during the upcoming constituency contests. Both groups will instead need to select alternate names and independent symbols provided by the poll body for their respective candidates.

The poll panel is expected to review the detailed documentation and legal submissions provided by both sides before taking a final stance on the party's permanent ownership and symbol allocation.
