West Bengal’s mineral revenue climbed by 33% in the latest reporting period, underscoring a significant uptick in the state’s mining sector. Data from the Department of Mines shows that the total receipts from mineral extraction reached new highs, driven largely by increased output from several mining units.
Birbhum district led the charge, contributing the highest amount to the state’s mineral coffers. The district’s mines reported higher production volumes, which translated into greater revenue for the state.
The government cited the growth as a positive sign for regional development, noting that the increased mineral income would support infrastructure projects and local employment. Officials also emphasized the need for sustainable mining practices to maintain long‑term benefits.
While the figures highlight a robust performance, authorities are monitoring environmental and regulatory compliance to ensure that mining activities continue to align with national standards.
